my makeup bag

Happy Tuesday lovelies! I have to admit that I am a bit of a makeup junkie. I get such a thrill stepping in Sephora and CVS, I cannot add enough different products to my makeup bag train case. So today I thought I would share some of my favorite products that have stood the test of time in my beauty regimen.

1. Smashbox Photo Finish Light Primer: Smashbox was the first brand of primer I began using, and it never really gave me a reason to want to try something different. I did end up trying others by Sephora & Makeup Forever and I ended up returning both. This primer is oil-free and perfect for my acne-prone skin!
2. Makeup Forever HD Invisible Cover Foundation:  This is another oil-free product, which I need, and it has the perfect amount of medium to full coverage on those days when my face needs a little more help! I love the formula of this. Plus, a little bit goes a long way!
3. NARS Tinted Moisturizer: Oil-free, light weight, while covering my imperfections!
4. Benefit Erase Paste: All I have to say- bye, bye bags!
5. Sephora Smoothing & Brightening Concealer: One of the ladies that work at Sephora recommended this to me as a cheap alternative to the YSL Touche Eclat. I have been using this to brighten and highlight my face, and I really love the formula.
6. Makeup Forever HD Microfinish Powder: I have been using the powder for years, and I love the universal shade. It makes my skin so soft, and mattifies it at the same time!
7. Bobbi Brown Blush Apricot: The perfect pink shade without too much sparkle.
8. M.A.C. Paint Pot in Rubenesque: I use this literally every day, whether as a base or just by itself. I normally use this in place of an eyeshadow primer.
9. M.A.C. Eyeshadow in Handwritten: The most perfect matte brown shade with a tint of purple. I love to line my eyes in this during the day, or use it to give me a smoky eye if I am out and about in the evening.
10. M.A.C. Eyeshadow in Satin Taupe: This color compliments handwritten so well. It has a frost finish with the same undertones as handwritten. It is perfect for day or night.
11. Lancome Eyebrow Pencil in Sable: This eyebrow pencil is different from all of the others I have tried. Its a powder pencil, which I find much easier to use.
12. Kat Von D Sin-full Lash Mascara: Yes, Kat Von D. This mascara is eyelash perfection, trust me. Just try it!
13. Benefit They're Real Mascara: This mascara lives up to the hype, I love it!
14. Aquaphor: I swear by this stuff. You will never have chapped lips again if you use this regularly!

What arsenals do you all have in your makeup bag? I want to find more budget friendly products that are equally as wonderful, so I need your help! Are there any drugstore favorites you swear by?

Skirt: JC Penney (here), Sequin Tee: J. Crew (here),  Necklace: J. Crew (here), Sunglasses: F21

Happy Monday y'all! As you might have read in this post, one of my goals and no shopping strategies over Lent is to remix more items in my closet. One of the items I was most excited to remix was this skirt, especially after this post! I just adore this skirt; maybe its because it is beyond comfy, maybe because I unexpectedly scored it at JC Penney. Whatever the case may be, its just another over the top average day at work for me! I dread the day I have an office job and boring work clothes. Until then, you can find me sashaying in sequins & chevron at a local J. Crew Factory near you :)

Lent Link Up Support Group

TGIF! Today's post is going to be a little different because I am linking up with three other lovely ladies today to gush about giving up our favorite pastime, shopping. For those of you who follow me on twitter you probably already know, but I gave up shopping for lent. After a little bit of a spending frenzy during my NYC trip I knew a cut back in my shopping was a necessity! I have tried attempting a shopping hiatus in the past, but my weak self control got in the way and the next thing I knew I was at the mall. Soo.. What better way to hold myself accountable than lent!? So for the next couple of Fridays Krista from the Southern Shopaholic, Sydney from Summer Wind, Miss Andrea Lee from Tickled Pink, and myself will be linking up about our experiences, wish lists, and tips to survive a shopping free lent. Todays topic: tricks of the trade to not shop!

Okay, so one might think its a little silly to need ways to keep me from shopping, but after week one I am in dyer need of them. So here is what I have come up with so far :)

1. Shop my wardrobe:
I am almost embarrassed to say there are a few several things in my closet that still have the tags on them. Guilty, I know. In my defense I think it really has a lot to do with working in retail. Things in my store end up on clearance, and then they somehow miraculously wind up in my closet! Its a crazy thing, I tell ya! But seriously, I can't say no to a $15 tweed skirt or a $20 sweater. So, I will be shopping my closet and finally taking the tags off of those babies. Hopefully it will feel a little like shopping. Heres to hoping!

2. Remix my closet:
There are so many pieces in my closet that I adore, but they don't get the love they deserve because the next best thing gets hung on the hanger beside it. I will be making a conscious effort to put together different outfits with beloved pieces, in hopes it feels a little bit like putting on a new outfit. Look forward to more proof of that ;)

3. STAY AWAY FROM THE MALL:
Pretty original advice, I'm sure. Peaking online is okay and adding everything your little heart desires to your online shopping cart (without actually purchasing of course) is okay, but I know the second I step foot in a mall its game over. Just. Stay. Away.

I seriously have my fingers crossed that a little bit of self control and these three little tips do the trick!

blush & burgundy

Thursday, February 21, 2013

Top: H&M (a couple seasons old, similar here), Jeans: Old Navy (here & similar color here), Shoes: J. Crew (here & cheaper version here), Necklaces: J. Crew Factory & gifted Brighthouse Baubles (here), Bracelets: David Yurman, Sarah Chloe, & Ann Taylor

Hey y'all! I am mixing two colors today that might not be typical, but the blush serves as a neutral so it makes it an easy addition to the eggplanish-burgundy color of my jeans! I have been loving an outfit that stays within the spectrum of one color so I knew my new Brighthouse Bauble was just the thing to top it off :)
